Hark! The To-Do List book will be out in November!

Many of the contributors to this book have been IMing and emailing me, asking how it's going? When is the book coming out? I am psyched to tell you that To-Do List: From Buying Milk to Finding a Soul Mate, What Our Lists Reveal About Us will be out in November, in all its full-color, beautifully designed glory! We are working on the proofs right now. It's always a long, laborious process getting every detail in a book right but I am just so excited to see this book come together!

Here's the copy that the publisher is using the describe the book.

More and more, we are a nation with “a growing appetite for list-making” (Wall Street Journal)—from grocery lists, New Year’s resolutions, and things to do before we die to to DVDs to rent and people we’ve kissed. In To-Do List (based on the popular magazine and blog of the same name, Sasha Cagen celebrates the humble to-do list, exploring the ways these scribbled agendas reflect our idiosyncrasies, personalities and passions.

To-Do List is both a celebration of lists and a peek at the lists that others create. Included is a fascinating collection from everyday people and the well-known alike, broken down by subjects like “Daily Lists” and “Obsessive Lists” to “Life Lists” and “Sex Lists."

Among the highlights:

1. Novelist Nick Hornby’s list of desert island discs
2. The list of a New Englander afflicted with seasonal affective disorder (with completed items like “Got out of bed” and “Opened the shades”)
3. A shopping list from chef Alice Waters of Chez Panisse
4. A woman’s accomplishments before her 30th birthday, which include “Hot air ballooned over the Serengeti” and “Danced on table in Vegas”
5. A list of qualities one man is looking for in a future wife, including “Chews with her mouth shut” and “Will let me give my first son the name of Jacob”

To-Do List features 100 lists. With each list, Cagen offers the story behind it, as well as a prompt for readers to compare notes and take their own stab at a similar list.

In the tradition of Found and This Book Will Change Your Life, To-Do List will—with its glorious full-color packaging and visually dynamic design—make the ideal holiday gift, stocking stuffer, or way to get to know yourself better in the New Year.

Sasha Cagen is the author of Quirkyalone and the founding editor and publisher of the magazine To-Do List and its corresponding blog,, which has been featured on NPR and in Real Simple. Her essays have appeared in The Village Voice, Men’s Health, San Francisco Chronicle, and Utne. She lives in San Francisco, California.
