I'd add:

- Make sure they understand that things are going on in your life and other people's lives as well.
- Don't sound patronizing when you talk to them.

I added this to my blog to my first born son. It is great advice. Thanks for sharing this To-Do-List, this list is now part of mine.

I love this list. It is so apparent that the person who wrote this list has been through the trenches! Everyday, I pray that I can even come close to half the things on this list. Raising children (doing it well) is the hardest job there is. Thanks for the beautiful insight into a pure heart.

That's a very thoughtful and well considered list. Maybe add:

* I know that I won't always get it right and I'll be kind to myself when that happens
* have fun with them - play, dance, sing and laugh.
* no guilt.

i like the idea "nothing moves through force." it seems like it applies to more than just parenting but to any situation where you are trying to create a better outcome--i am even thinking of my household where we were trying to get better about our "chore schedule." being positive and encouraging as opposed to punitive seems so much more powerful and effective to me. i guess, until you do need to be punitive when someone (a child or adult??) really crosses the line.

I loved this list. I am a high school teacher and think that most of these can also apply to my interaction with the students in my classroom. "Nothing moves through force."

What a great list! Very inspirational. Thanks for providing a great resource. Your site is very inspiring. Inspiring enough to help me get over the hump with my site.
